What kind of camera do you use  for travel?

I use a Canon 600D with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 lens. For portraits I usually use a Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens. My camera’s name is Florence and my lenses do not have names (yet).

Do you travel alone or with a group?

Sometimes I travel with my family (who really enjoy going abroad), but I usually enjoy traveling alone. Often times I will meet up with friends or relatives who live near my destination.

How do you travel alone? Don’t you get bored?

I love traveling alone because it forces me to interact with my surroundings more, strike up conversations with people, and learn how to get around a place on my own. Even though I’ve had some pretty scary experiences while traveling abroad alone, I’d choose it over traveling with a big group in a heartbeat. I’ve met so many people and heard so many fantastic stories just by sitting next to a stranger on a bus or a plane.

How do you afford to travel so much?

Admittedly, many of my travel experiences have been funded by my parents, particularly my mother, who believe in the educational and personal value of travel abroad. However, many of my recent trips, especially domestically, I paid for out-of-pocket. I work 10-20 hours per week on top of my college course load in order to afford them and spend frugally throughout the school year.

Do you have any future trip plans for the remainder of 2012?

Nothing is set in stone, but I’m hoping to take one more trip abroad for a photo-based travel assignment. Some possibilities include Iceland, Turkey, and Peru, but like I said, nothing is definite yet.

What is your ideal travel situation?

I would really like to find one travel partner who is easy to get along with and has a similar travel mindset as me. I don’t mind staying in hostels and backpackers’ lodges, but I do hope to eat good local food wherever I go. There would also be postcards available in every location (sometimes there aren’t). I’d stay abroad for six months or maybe even longer.
