When I reflect on my experiences in Bohol, the first thing that comes to mind is the exotic wildlife I had the chance to come in contact with — quite literally.
Our first stop after disembarking our two-hour boat from Camiguin was to see the endangered Tarsier monkeys at a wildlife sanctuary. These monkeys are the smallest primates and are nocturnal. We were lucky to catch a few shots of one that was awake!
As we were leaving the Tarsier sanctuary, a man pulled us aside, showing us a lizard he had just caught. We got a chance to hold it ourselves, too.
Finally, we set off to our next destination — the world-famous chocolate hills. Right now they’re a little greenish-brown, but the views were amazing as we hiked up one of the many hills. Of course, we had to take some obligatory “flying” shots.
Afterward, we stopped by a small wildlife area which had pythons, ostriches, bear cats, and iguanas, among many other animals native to the area. I had some bonding time with a python as well as a lizard!
One of the most wonderful things about Bohol is that anyone can see the vibrancy of the land and environment before they even set foot in the island. After a day of animals, wildlife, scenic views, and photos, we headed to our hotel, Lost Horizon. But one last surprise awaited us on the way there…
The next day, we hopped on a river boat tour and were welcomed by music, good food, and surreal rainforest views.
Bohol is truly one of the most spectacular areas of the Philippines. Rarely ever can visitors come in close proximity of wildlife while still being able to enjoy vast scenery, trekking, and group activities. With so much beauty in one place, it’s no wonder that this is becoming a very popular vacation spot!

The only thing that requires a bit of saving is the ticket over. Once you’re in the Philippines, everything is REALLY inexpensive! And yes, plenty of animals to see all over the place here. 🙂

I already looked up tickets last night and they’re actually the cheapest tickets from Korea that I’ve found so far. ^^ I guess the chances of me going to the Philippines are getting higher!
I actually grinned at this comment! I hope you get to go!!! It’s really a beautiful place and luckily, it’s really cheap once you get here too 😀 Entrance fees are almost always less than $1 and you can easily find accommodations for a low price too!
I’m getting that traveling itch again on top of planning my tour throughout Korea.. ^^ Off to researching I go! I don’t know how I’ll survive without traveling annually anymore… Living abroad has ruined me; I like staying in one place for at least a couple of months.
Too bad I’ve a full-time job now.
Ah, I hope you will find time to travel though despite your job. But I agree, even though I’ve never lived abroad, I like staying in once place for a long time rather than moving around all the time. I think I get to know a place better that way!
Yeah! That’s why I don’t like tours. You only get a glimpse of the country and only what the country wants you to see.

These ones were particularly friendly, too. 🙂 The Philippines is the perfect place for reptile lovers (and animal lovers in general)!

Not sure, but it was definitely too tired to notice me there! It was humongous though, probably twice my height (length-wise). Scary but fun!
