SoCal: Sunshine and an Open Mind

On my way to the Philippines, I opted for a three-day stopover in Orange County, California. What a great decision it was! The sunshine and cool, breezy temperature here is enough to put anyone in a good mood.

When I got to the airport, my aunt and uncle picked me up and we went to BCD, a Korean tofu restaurant with ridiculously good food.

We also got dessert at a bakery nearby. I chose a small fruit gelatin cup, which was very light and delicious!

Afterward, we went to the Asian grocery store, H Mart, to buy some groceries and fruits for my stay. It definitely wasn’t your average grocery store!

That night, we played ukulele and sang to popular songs at their house. This is my favorite kind of bonding because it’s so relaxed. Music really has a way of bringing people together!

The next day, I met up with my friend Annie from Rice. We went out to lunch at a small café then walked around Dana Point Harbor. I took my first Identity Project today as well.

Afterward, Uncle Ray and Auntie Pinky took me to Spectrum Mall, where we shopped, walked around, and talked. Everything here was really nice and upscale, and it was nice hearing live music as we walked around. Even visually, this mall is dazzling!

The next day, we went to Costco and coincidentally met a photographer from the LA times, Mark Boster. He was very friendly and his work is beautiful!

Afterward, Uncle Ray took me to Laguna Beach. It’s an artsy little town and the houses are absolutely gorgeous. Even though the day was overcast, we had a good time chatting and walking around the city.

Even though my time in the OC was short, it was really relaxing and fun, just what I needed after my weeks of work in Guatemala and before my day-long trip to the Philippines! I’ll be visiting this area again towards the end of the summer, so for now, I’ll see you later Cali!

  1. I was just in OC in February on tour with our ballet company…What a great place! We rented a Mustang convertible and cruised along the US 1 to Laguna and beyond:):) Keep traveling!! 🙂

    1. It’s such a relaxing and sunny environment, isn’t it? It’s so fun to roll down the windows and see all of the Pacific sights! Thanks so much for stopping by. Good luck with your ballet and your travels 🙂

  3. I love the OC! I also recently visited Marina Del Rey it’s pretty close to the OC about 15 or 20 minutes away. The beach is beautiful, so many outdoor shopping centers and restaurants. My twin sister went to college in the OC, I loved visiting her. She would take me out to lunch, such a nice place! I’m glad you enjoyed your trip 🙂

    1. Ah yes, such a beautiful area, and the beaches are gorgeous! I’ll definitely have to check out Marina Del Rey next time 🙂
